Week 1: Avatar of the Carbonator
Hello class, my name is Connor Carbo and I'm a second semester freshman at Wentworth. I came to school in January to start my college career. I play on the men's Ice Hockey team here as well! My Avatar nickname for the semester is going to be "Carbonator". My last name, as you already know, is Carbo and I think the combination with terminator is an interesting mix. I look forward to virtually meeting everyone and getting to know you through our work this semester. I spend my summers at the race track, fishing and playing a lot of cornhole with my friends. Over the summer I got seriously involved with cornhole as I wake up and go to bed wanting to throw one more bag. I bought my own boards and got bags just to practice by myself at home. It might be an addiction but for now I'll call it a hobby. I spend a lot of time at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, New Hampshire with my family. My parents have a camper that we leave there for the summer and we go over every weekend, watch the races, have campfires and cook big meals. My favorite part of the weekend is going to golf on Sunday with a few of my friends that race on Saturday. We play 18 holes at a course nearby the track so we don't have to drive far. Being a group of super competitive people can make for a long 18 holes full of laughs and fights. I spend the winters playing hockey. Before I came to Wentworth, I was playing junior hockey. After I graduated high school I played two years of hockey before going to school to improve my skills and mature more. Without the two years off I wouldn't be here today so I am happy for the longer road I took. I love Wentworth so far and I can't wait for the pandemic to be over so we can get back to in-person classes and life as normal!

Hey Connor, I'm a big hockey fan and being part of our college athletics must be a lot of fun. I no longer skate, I played puck for years up until high school before focusing on lacrosse. I was thinking about trying out for the lax team but wanted to feel it out before diving in. What’s your experience been like with hockey? What’s the off-season like and how busy does it make your schedule? I mean any feedback about being part of a college team is good, I know the experience isn’t the same with everything going on.
ReplyDeleteHey Brandon, I strongly suggest playing a college sport if you get the opportunity because you never wanna look back in life wishing you would've done something. I think this happens a lot with sports so I'd suggest going for it. My schedule is a little rough because our rink is off campus so we gotta drive there and back. For lax though, the field is on campus and I live with a guy on the team who loves it. At least go to tryouts and see if you like the guys, then go from there.
DeleteHi there, Carbonator! That's a pretty good nickname you have there. Thanks for sharing about yourself here. I was expecting to see a bit more on the arts, in particular, but it's cool to learn more about you in addition to your avatar snap. Also, don't forget to add the labels to your blogs: week1, avatar. Your piece on DMB definitely brought back memories for me; I grew up going to a few of their shows and had one particularly fun night at a Dave and Friends concert at MSG in 2003 (that makes me sound/feel very old, doesn't it...?) where he played with Trey Anastasio of Phish. Man I miss going to concerts!
ReplyDeleteWhat's up Carbonator? Great post, I've played hockey my whole life and I was wondering what juniors team did you play for? Based off your profile picture, I have a solid idea of what position you played. I play defense for a semi-competitive beer league team in the North Shore. Corn-hole is definitely a skilled game. My buddies and I set up cornhole on the beach and have a field day.
ReplyDeleteHey Justin, I played for the Vermont Lumberjacks in Burlington, Vermont for 4 years in the Eastern Hockey League. Beer league is the best man, hockey is one of those sports that people just can't give up until their body makes them.
